What is Shilajit? Shilajit is a sticky tar-like resinous exudate pressed out from the layers of rock on the cliffs of Himalayan mountains at an altitude above 2000m. It is decomposed plant materials that are high in humic substances and minerals. Shilajit in Sanskrit means ‘Conqueror of Mountains and Destroyer of Weakness’. It has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for more than 5000 years and is a special component of many ayurvedic formulae. Shilajit resin is extracted from raw shilajit rocks following traditional ayurvedic principles. Fulvic and humic mineral complexes found in purified Shilajit resin contains more than 85 vital minerals in the most bioactive, ionic, form that our body can effectively utilize for optimum wellbeing. In Ayurveda, it is believed that there are no diseases that shilajit cannot cure in the universe when it is combined with the right foods at the right time. Most recent studies, regarding the health benefits of fulvic acid and shilajit, now are starting to acknowledge this truth which eastern yogis had known for millennia. The main components of purified shilajit are fulvic and humic acid as carriers of Dibenzo-alpha pyrones, phospholipids, triterpenes, phenolic acids, iron, zinc, copper, along with more than 80 minerals. Shilajit has a distinctive smell and has a complex taste with a mix-ture of pungent, bitter and astringent. In Ayurveda, shilajit is known as a ?Yoga Vaha?, meaning that it has the ability to enhance the absorption and effectiveness of other herbs or supplements. Shilajit is also known as an adaptogenic supplement, meaning it helps the body adapt or process both internal and external stressors. It has been used for thousands of years to fight stress and fatigue while rejuvenating and regenerating tired cells.
Method of purification: Our shilajit is extracted from raw shilajit rock using pure water utilizing both Agni-tapi and Surya-tapi method of Ayurveda. Initially, shilajit rocks are dissolved in RO water for 5 days, then, only the lighter molecular weight (fraction with higher fulvic acids) part of the dissolved shilajit is separated. After that, agnitapi (heating) is done below 50 degrees Celsius to evaporate excess water and precipitate heavy metals and undissolved particles. This process takes about 8 days for a batch of 50kg shilajit rocks. Then surya-tapi (sun drying) is done for at least 50 days to skim off resin continuously. Filtration of humans and undissolved particles are done in each and every step throughout the process. No milk, cow urine or any other herbs are used in the process like what many traditional processors do to adulterate the shilajit here in Nepal.
Is Shilajit Kombucha safe for all age groups? Yes, can be consumed by all age groups both male and female. Especially, people of over 30 years of age will benefit the most. However some school of thoughts do not recommend shilajit to person below 12 years of age or to any pregnant woman.
